Tha'ts right ,
Global warming has spiraled out of control to the point that now our climate is getting so HOT that it is actually cooling down to the point that Florida's Manatee are now in danger because of the record Cool temperatures.
Something has to be done to stop this Global "Warming". LOL

[QUOTE]
Tampa, Florida (CNN) -- The unusually cold weather that struck Florida in January did more than damage crops and citrus trees.
It has also caused an unprecedented number of deaths among Florida's beloved residents, the endangered West Indies manatees.
Twisting and flopping in the shallow water, Baby Coral probably doesn't realize just how lucky she is. When this 3-year-old female manatee was brought into Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo last month, she was 300 pounds underweight, unable to eat.
Her skin was covered with small white, blister-like lesions known as "Florida frostbite," the result of exposure to cold temperatures.
Lowry Park Zoo is one of the three facilities in the state that provide medical treatment and a place for manatees to recover from cold stress, as well as other injuries.
"It's an exceptionally bad year for the manatee," said Dr. David Murphy, the zoo's veterinarian.
So far this year, a record 280 or more manatees have died from cold stress-related illnesses. That's estimated to be 5 percent of the total population in Florida. Add that to last year's record mortality rate of 429 deaths from boat strikes and other causes, and that number may be as high as 10 percent.
Marine biologist Andy Garrett says he's never seen anything like this before. The full impact of the cold weather on the manatee population is still unclear, according to Garrett, who works for Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
He says that when water temperatures dip below 68 degrees Fahrenheit, these subtropical animals simply can't cope with the cold. Last month, Florida's water temperatures dropped as low as the 40s. While manatees are round and plump like seals and other marine mammals, their fat is not designed to insulate them from the cold, Garrett said.
West Indies manatees roam the warm waters of the Caribbean, and in the summer have been known to migrate as far north as the New Jersey, and as far west as Texas.

Man,we both know the planet will do what it will do ............ not alot we can do about it.
What we should not do is scare people, tax people or shout down any objectors in the name of 'global warming'.
Once again an issue that needs carefull discussion/ debate has turned into a money earner for the already rich...........
how do they do that, and more importantly why do we let them do it.
So where is the Manatee Aid gig being held this year, Simon Cowell can organise the charity single, it could have celebrity manatees do a set, it will be cool. or hot cant decide........

Only the very uninformed would expect that. Weather patterns are complex, and warming in one area could easily cause cooling in another. The term "global warming" is not as accurate as climate change. The overall climate is what we should pay attention to.

According to the data, the overall trend seems to be a warming effect that goes along a little too well with the beginning of the industrial revolution when we started burning a bunch of shit into the air. The effect of greenhouse gases is not up for debate. It's a known factor. it's the other factors like sun activity etc that can upset the predictions, but that doesn't change the base facts; or the fact that we need to stop burning shit into the atmosphere at a compounding rate.

Likely not. Manatees are local animals, and only live in fresh-water, beyond that, I don't think they have the capacity to know where to go for warmer waters. |

This is just sooooo depressing !
There is so much disinformation about...Much 'spoiling' science too emanating from the Oil companies who will do ANYTHING and say ANYTHING to rubbish climate change science to keep their market share.
The Oil companies & their apologists are the real enemies. If we want planet earth to survive for our grandchildren then we invest in alternative technologies QED and ASAP...wind, wave, HEP, solar...
THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE.
On the other hand if people continue to believe the mantra of the Oil Companies and the scientists under THEIR direction then we shall burn and burn quickly...and who would there be left to argue that by our naivete we didn't deserve it by not acting sooner ?
There is a mountain of empirical evidence to show that 75% of the world's glaciers are in recession.
Ten of the fifteen warmest years since records began have occurred since 1993.
Now those statistics alone should make a few pennies drop...shouldn't they ?... |

To sum it up, we need to stop burning shit into the air. But there is an alternative that's already in our power, and expels nothing but steam. It's called bolstering the nuclear power grid. Clean efficient energy and no harm to the environment. The burning of coal for our power grids generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars boats, buses, planes, and every other oil source combined. Worrying about the emissions from the cars we drive around should really be taking a back seat to the worst offenders. It's less of an impact, so it's something we can deal with over time. By cutting some of the red tape and getting more fusion plants running, we make the biggest dent in the problem by far without really affecting the lives of every american directly and right now. |

but but there is just as much insane amount of money involved in the "green" industry too. Except instead of oil companies , people like al gore and research institutes all over the planet continue to get funding as long as they can keep alive the "fear" that the earth is heating up.
The game is on both sides. The very same people that are spreading this fear of global warming are making just as much money as the oil companies , or at least they hope to. |

| Who cares about stupid money when we're very likely destroying the environment that gives us everything? As you say, changing life for everyone means that different people will be making money, and others will be making less. So what? |

I don't expect much anymore. Gore and the idiot oil/coal lobby have turned this completely into a politics issue. As I say, according to the idiots on the "conservative" side of the issue, money is more important that preservation of the planet's features that allow us to live and prosper as a species.
Either the economy takes a hit and we plan accordingly, or we do nothing the economy does well for the oil and coal trading, and eventually we potentially screw things up big time in a fashion that will take much longer to fix than it did to create, IF we even get the opportunity. |

Just done my bit to reduce global warming...................
I ve put ice in my beer!!!!!
Its about all i can do to stop mother nature doing what she does, we can not stop it if we put all the cash in the world behind it, and anyone who thinks they can stop a planet from doing what it does is a deluded dick head. How can you make up for 3 maybe 4 millenia of wood and coal burning, dont tell me its worse now because that is bollocks, whilst America was a wilderness inhabited by natives the rest of the world was producing millions of tons of carbon based crap for release into the atmosphere on a daily basis. you may only be a couple of centuries old but the rest of the world has been going alot longer and has learnt alot quicker.
SO;
Go buy a Prius, pay the eco tax, use low energy light bulbs, recycle, fart in bag but YOU WILL NOT STOP IT, the poor little Manatee is just going to have to suffer along with the rest of us, or develope opossing thumbs. spicies have died out before you know this is not new.
and if another person tells me to "think about the future generations" i will punch them. how do they know some wizz kid in the year 2125 will not come up with an easy, cheap solution and make all the bad things disapear.
p.s. i wonder how many eco warriors go cold in the winter or turn your air con off in the summer, or have thier electricity supplied by a wind turbine, they are all full of shit.
GLOBAL WARMING IS BOLLOCKS/ the planetry cycle is not, read your history and you will learn that this has been going on since time began, only now it has become messurable.

Everyone seems to miss the major points when they talk about the "natural cycles" of carbon in the atmosphere. That point is that we're screwing those cycles up. The plants, the oceans, and even the atmosphere itself are all part of a cycle in exchanging greenhouse gas between them. All of those sources of greenhouse gas are constantly absorbing or emitting more gases.
However, the part we're messing up is the earths "long term" carbon storages. Completely aside from the natural cycles are what's called "fossil fuels" by humans. These are things like oil and coal which are normally far-separated from the atmospheric cycle by the earth itself. Those sources remain underground and separate from the atmosphere and cannot add to the greenhouse effect by holding warmth against the earth.
That separation ended at the industrial revolution when we started to dig up coal and suck up oil to burn into the atmosphere. Since that time, even judging roughly by the numbers we've noted in the range of a 30% increase in carbon alone. Ignoring all the other crap we burn into the air.
So, again, completely aside from all the cars and everything else, we could make the biggest impact right now by quickly switching over coal plants to nuclear generated power for our grids. Burning coal for the power grids is by FAR the biggest problem in our co2 conscious world. We can slowly change everything else, or perhaps not even worry about it so much as long as we stop burning so much coal.
I know it's scary to admit, but yes, we really are able to change the atmospheric balance for the whole planet. We need to be a bit less selfish and pay attention to the buildup we're causing. You're correct that we have little power over the natural cycles, but that doesn't mean we can ignore our own additions. |
