I never was interested in Windows Vista even before it launched, but Windows 7 looks like it may be an improvement over XP. I also know a guy who used the Beta version of Windows 7 and harped about how great it is. Check out the video from CNET that provides more info:

I watched the video and I have to say that I am totally unimpressed. The ideas shown in the video were, imo, stolen from Apple. Their OS uses the same style task bar now they just changed it enough to avoid copyright laws. Yeah I use both Apple and MS products as I transition away from Microsoft. Microsoft only sells more because the PC is used more at the moment. As they continue to make unstable software... all I've heard is nightmares about Vista... they will lose out eventually, I think.

installed the RC that came out on the 5th of May.
gotta say, Microsoft seems to know what they are doing now.

its faster than vista, the interface is faster than XP, it runs software nearly as fast as XP. and most importantly it is loads more secure and stable than XP. what was best of all was that i didn't have to install any drivers. it got every driver i needed on my laptop including video card drivers that weren't that outdated (still outdated, think it had January so only 5 months behind, still better than generic display drivers)

i was a fan of vista, but seeing how much they improved upon windows 7 i gotta say i'm impressed. everything feels intuitive and responsive.

Fun knows i'm a fan of Vista when not too many were, but Windows 7 truly makes vista seem like the garbage everyone claimed it was.

OH and the RC is free for all to try, its annoying to install an OS yes, but its nice that it puts all of your old documents from your previous install into a windows.old folder, meaning you don't lose all your data from your previous installation.

I like windows XP always. Its easy and comfortable for me. I often use Vista theme on my XP but haven't used vista yet. But after buying a dual core laptop i will start using windows 7. but windows 7 is cool.

Having kept away from Vista this is good news. I especially like the xp mode (or whatever it was called) feature where you're able to use you printer or other peripheral devices that would only run on xp. No need to go out and buy a new ones.

Im not much of an OS snob. I would kinda like a mac but I been using PC's since day one so im not sure if im ready to abandon them.

I use whatever software is new and affordable. I had been using XP for the last few years and recently bought Vista Premium 64 bit. My only gripe is the constant pop ups asking me if I am sure i want to continue doing something.

As far as all the other complaints. I just don't see them or maybe I don't know whaat to look for . I dunno

My computer actually seems to be running faster now because the 64 bit OS allows me to use all of my RAM

I never feel crazy for any version of windows let alone windows 7. I am a linux lover because i love opensource OS. As a result i felt crazy before the last version of ubuntu named JONTY JACKLOPE had released. The compiz effect of this version is really dazzling. you may try it for your desktop pc.

yeah ive found that the 64bit OS is more stable and more responsive.

ive found that applications do run slightly slower, but honestly the much quicker UI is more than worth the exchange.

from what ive read though, a 64bit OS wont ever really run anything faster, it will just make 32bit applications that push 2gb Ram consumption more stable, and generally remain responsive far longer than a 32bit OS.

when software/games start using more than 2GB RAM you will start to find more 64bit applications coming out.

Linux i do enjoy and see it growing to consume a dominant portion of the market. its lack of efficient DirectX execution will always limit the usefulness of Linux to the market. yes, there is WINE, but its always a few years behind the official and never runs the apps as fast as windows would.
since OpenGL3 turned out to suck slightly less than OpenGL2, the only hope is that OpenGL4 takes the Microsoft Route and drop compatability for OGL2/3 and do a full rewrite for performance and features.

I am going to wait until the first service pack is released and included on the CD before upgrading to 7. Since I bought XP when it was still new, it sucks having to download the huge SP files when doing a clean reinstall.
