Here are some of my favorite Add-Ons for FireFox:

1. Ad-Blocker - Privacy & Security

It simply blocks all ads without any complex configuring. It would be great if it had an icon with an "exclude this site" option without manually typing in the address in the config though.

2. AI Roboform - Privacy & Security

Man I love RoboForm, safely stores all of your logins for every site. If Chrome was able to use RoboForm, it would be my main browser.

3. Firebug - Web Development

This is more for programmers, it is useful for debugging webpage code. Especially all of those weird Javascript problems.

4. Google Toolbar - Search Tools

Mainly for the Gmail, PageRank, and SpellChecker options

5. NoScript - Privacy & Security

This is by far the best add-on IMO. This should be a default feature for FireFox. Makes you feel safe knowing you can select exactly what content can be displayed on the web page. It blocks any script automatically from any site unless you allow it. The only nitpick I have is that they release new updates just about every three days, so you always get that prompt to update when you launch FireFox.

6. Tab Scope - Tabs

This simple add-on should also be default with FireFox. It basically displays little thumbnails for every tab when you mouseover them.

7. File and Folder Shortcuts - Add ons

A feature that should also be default for FireFox. It allows you to create quick links to any folder or file from your local hard drive. Internet Explorer does this, so I am not sure why Google Chrome or FireFox do not. I have gotten accustomed to using shortcuts to my local files from my browser, so this add on allows me to do this with FireFox. Best of all, you have the option to remove the shortcut toolbar, and use the dropdown menu instead.

8. Adblock Plus - Privacy & Security

I use the Ad Blocker add-on along with this one. The difference is that it allows you to right click on an ad or frame and hide it from the page completely.

9. Plain Text Links - Add ons

Allows you to open up plain text urls as if they were active. There are three different types of add ons for this feature. One is called "Text Link" that does this with a double click. Other is like the one used in Google Chrome where you right click. The only problem with that is it doesn't automatically open the tab. I chose this addon since you right click over the text link, and have the option to paste and go which opens the site in a new tab. I didn't want to use the Text Link add on to prevent accidental clicks.

10. FEBE - Add ons

Easilly backup or restore all of your Add ons with a click of a button. A lot of useful config options to tweak the the backups just the way you like.

11. Form History Control - Add ons

Easily view and edit the field data from forms that FireFox stores (if you have that option enabled).

12. CookieSafe - Privacy & Security

Block cookies from untrusted sites. This addon is really good if you tweak it the way you like from the options menu. I have mine set to block cookies from every site except for the ones I trust automatically. I also disabled the notifications option since that icon animation on every page load gets annoying. EDIT I had to uninstall this though as it still blocked cookies from allowed sites that may be using third party cookies that you could not see. I couldn't login to my Comcast site to pay a bill because of this.

13. Image Zoom - Add ons

Allows you to zoom into images from websites easily. Sometimes I want to get a closer view of Amazon products and this addon makes it easier for me.

14. Default FullZoom Level - Add ons

A necessity if you have a high resolution monitor. I bought a new laptop with a 17.3" screen and every site looked tiny on it. This add-on allows you to set a default size for every site and custom sizes for certain sites.

15. Color that site

Some sites that I like have an awful color scheme. I installed this mod for a site that had a dark background with dark text that made my head hurt. I installed this add-on to simply change the background to a light color and it seems fine now. Great for when the webmaster is an idiot

16. Change text case

Allows you to change the way text appears on websites. So if SOMEONE TYPES IN ALL CAPS, you can right click and change it to either lowercase, sentence form, back to uppercase, etc.

17. Better Privacy

Browsers still log data that are not removed by standard means that track you to display advertising content. This addon removes that data.

hear about the controversy with Noscript and Adblock?
Noscript writes a file to Adblock putting the Noscript website on a permanant whitelisting.

Well that makes sense, they want to make sure that users are able to see all of the content that their sites provide since they are not harmful. Their free addons are mianly used to block spammy sites that crash your browser and place spyware on your PC. I wonder if that is also why Google Chrome doesn't come with an Adblock, since most sites use Google Adsense. I do not mind that they are trying to get something out of a useful free product. I know that a lot of people like everything for free without realizing the amount of work it takes from the developer to deliver quality service at no price.

Here's a java client I quickly threw together. A little sloppy, but hey it's a start and it's a close translation to the PHP example code given virtual private server hosting.

I really like the last two add-ons on the list (15 - 16). I installed the site color addon since someone was using dark blue text on a dark background and it was really hard on the eyes. I changed the background to white and I can see it clearly and it saved that site color so every time I visit it, it will save my custom design colors Add-on 16 allows me to right click and change the way someone's text appears if they are typing in ALL CAPS.
